So, what are the benefits of joining GAS ?

  • Admission to GAS monthly meetings, each featuring a guest speaker.
  • Being part of a group of like-minded individuals - we all love astronomy !
  • Free training. We offer various courses including basic astronomy for complete beginners through to more advanced subjects.
  • Free advice. Just ask. It really is that easy.
  • At our monthly observing sessions, the opportunity to get away from city lights and enjoy astronomy in the safety of a group.
  • Access to a large telescope at our observatory. Any member is able to book and use the telescope once they have completed a short training session.
  • After completion of a short training session, access to the society's imaging facility.
  • Loan scopes - we have a variety of telescopes available for members to borrow. It's the ideal way to 'try before you buy'.
  • The GAS library has hundreds of publications including books, magazines and CDs.
  • Access to the members-only sections of the GAS web site.
  • Social events including for example, a summer barbecue, a trip to a planetarium and skittles night.
  • Arranged observing sessions for transient astronomical events such as particular meteor showers, eclipses, comets.
  • The opportunity to contribute to the society, whether on the committee, a member of the outreach team or in any other supporting role.
